This article was great. As a woman married to a man of African descent, I see his stoic views on women. My husband grew up in a town, where women served as homemakers, dressmakers, and house workers. In recent years his teenage sisters, have gone on to receive higher education here in the US. Women in his hometown have moved away and escaped traditional roles for professional positions. His sisters decided like many others that there are other opportunities. Slowly, I am seeing a shift in my husband's views toward women. He is now encouraging me to seek a Master's degree, which is a huge shift in his thought process.

Tia,
Is this all first hand information? As in, a one-on-one interview with you and Ms. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf? The article was very enriched with descriptive words- painting a very clear prespective on the stand point of African Women and their roles in their own society. Not to mention that it is a burst of light on the metamorphosis that's unfolding as we speak.
Hats off baby-
Great Article

Tia, you did an EXCELLENT job on this article. I LOVED IT!
I also really loved it because one part of my family has actually traced our roots back to Africa. One part of my family originates from a slave by the name of Mary Dunn and she was a hard working woman.
I have nothing but love and respect for my African ancestors, especially the women.
This article was very well put together. It speaks the truth about the evolution of the woman. Its good to here about women on the move even though society may not be completely for their forward journey towards ongoing success. If you ask me, we need more stories like this to be published.
Hey Tia,
The article was great. It was very informative. Keep up the good work girl!
Very best site. Keep working. Will return in the near future.

Star,
You asked if those were direct quotes, I obtained. The quotes come from an interview with Sirleaf done by the BBC News Bureau. I researched the topic and found historical data and political data to support this argument. Keep on thinking and keep on writing to the Gloss Blog... We appreciate all the love. We be glossin'...:)

Very interesting perspective. It's also interesting that this move is still considered "out of the norm" in Africa, when there are many influential Africans and African Americans who have been a great influence in USA. Keep up the good work, Tia!
Really amazing! Useful information. All the best.
