This article makes some good points - but no career/job search advice is complete without mentioning the "information interview".
In fact, the old post-your-resume-and-wait approach (alone) is innefective and somewhat obselete among succesful job finding strategies.
Post your resume, search online, newspapers, tell everyone you know and be proactive! Call the companies where you would like to work and speak with someone who can help. Don't ask for a job, just ask to get more information about a career with their organization.
Strange thing is - some people realize at this point that they have no idea where they would like to work!
